Super attendance November 2016 at Memorial to the Innocents

Westminster Abbey.  Nov 18th. 2016

More than 120 gathered in the precinct of Westminster Abbey on Nov 18th to participate in the annual memorial service to Children in War.

The service, led by the Rev’d David Stanton, Canon in Residence, and Rev’d Hugh Ellis, Hon. Chaplain to War children, included statements from Prof. Martin Parsons and Dr Peter Heinl, as well as quotations read by Brig. General Colin Tadier (ret’d).

There were a number of children in attendance, mainly from schools in Reading and West Berkshire.

Nursery School: Bradfield Montessori

Primary Schools: Parsons Down, Englefield, Upper Bucklebury,

Secondary Schools: Reading School, John Madjeski Academy, Bradfield College, Kennet School. Theale Green

Scouts: The Hungarian Scout troop UK.

This year there were representatives from four Embassies, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Hungary as well as a member of the Russian Memorial Assoc.

For the first time 3 British Legion Standard Bearers attended and added to the sense of occasion.

Rev’d Stanton was delighted with the service, and the numbers attending, and is very keen for it to continue into the future.
